Dear Year 9,

I would like you to think of at least 8 problems a volcanic eruption may cause these could be to the environment or to the people that live near by them. This should be written in your book for next lesson on Friday 20th September.

In today’s lesson we started the last bit of our Britain at War content and we looked at the role of the government. I asked you to do the following things for homework using these two sources:

In today’s lesson we continued to look at rationing in world war one and world war two. I asked you to look at the following picture and answer the two questions below it, you could do this on the table that we made at the start of the lesson if you wish, some of you also asked for the rationing information which I have also included below:

Here is the food rationing information for WW2:

•A typical ration for one adult per week was:
•Butter: 50g (2oz)
• Bacon and ham: 100g (4oz) Margarine: 100g (4oz)
Sugar: 225g (8oz).
•Meat: To the value of 1s.2d (one shilling and sixpence per week. That is about 6p today)
• Milk: 3 pints (1800ml) occasionally dropping to 2 pints (1200ml). Cheese: 2oz (50g) Eggs: 1 fresh egg a week.
•Tea: 50g (2oz).
•Jam: 450g (1lb) every two months. Dried eggs 1 packet every four weeks.
•Sweets: 350g (12oz) every four weeks
•What were the first food items to be rationed?
•On 8 January 1940, bacon, butter and sugar were rationed.
•What other food items were rationed?
•Many different foods were added to the food ration list during the war. These included:
•meat (Mar 1940) jam (Mar 1941) biscuits ( Aug 1942), fish tea (Jul 1940) breakfast cereals, cheese (May 1941) eggs (June 1941) milk, tinned tomatoes (Feb. 1942) peas (Feb. 1942) dried fruit Jan 1942 rice (Jan 1942) canned fruit, cooking fat (Jul 1940) Some foods such as potatoes, fruit and fish were not rationed.

In today’s lesson we looked at Oliver Cromwell and whether he was a hero or a villan. I asked you to finish this paragraph for homework, thinking about all of the things that we covered in todays lesson such as:

The title he gave himself when he took over

How much he paid himself

The laws he passed and the punishment he dealt out.

“I think Oliver Cromwell was a hero/ villan because…………………………”

Year 8 Homework Tuesday 28th February 2012

In today’s lesson we looked at the Battle of Britain and how it looked like the RAF stood no chance against the Luftwaffe. We looked at why Hitler wanted to take over England.

What problems he faced in attacking us and why he could not use the Blitzkrieg tactics he had used on the rest of Europe.

What secret weapons we had.

I gave you a choice of how you wanted to demonstrate your learning: You could either do a :

1) Storyboard of the events

2) A newspaper front page

3) A write-up or a diary account or story.

 

I asked you to finish what you started in class for next lesson when we will be looking at Pearl Harbour and how and why the Americans got involved in World War 2.
